Who I am
I grew up in Benin, where a single course in differential equations at the Institut de Mathématiques et de Sciences Physiques (IMSP) convinced me that every physical phenomenon speaks a hidden mathematical language, and that learning it was what I wanted to do with my life.
After my Master's at IMSP, supported by the CEA-SMA scholarship of the World Bank, where I wrote my thesis on the stabilization of the Korteweg–de Vries equation under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Michel Coron, I spent a research internship at the Institut de Mathématiques de Toulouse (IMT), working on partial differential equations arising in fluid mechanics and on cascade systems. It was there that I first saw how the tools of analysis and control could reach into the actual behavior of coupled, distributed systems, and it confirmed the direction I wanted to take.
I went on to a second Master's in Mathematics Research and Innovation at Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse III, supported by the CIMI scholarship, and then to my PhD at LAAS-CNRS under the supervision of Lucie Baudouin and Sophie Tarbouriech, on event-triggered control of partial differential equations.
Today I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Crete, supported by the European Research Council through the C-NORA project, where I design control strategies for infinite-dimensional systems in the presence of delays, quantization, and communication constraints. What I love most about this work is that it sits at the seam between pure mathematics and the messy reality of engineering: Lyapunov functionals, backstepping, and semigroup theory on one side, sensors and actuators on the other, and a real chance to make both speak to each other.
Beyond research, I try to give back to the communities that shaped me. I serve as Vice-President of Songo Éducation, a non-profit fostering educational partnerships between France and the Central African Republic, and as a board member of ASA (Association Sciences pour l'Afrique), a volunteer-run, fully online pan-African scientific community connecting researchers on the continent and in the diaspora through seminars, mentoring, and outreach.
Outside the lab, I am rarely far from a book; literature and philosophy have a way of asking the questions that mathematics can never quite answer. I have also grown to love rugby, thanks to the Cretan Gunners, who so warmly introduced me to the game.
Short biography
Florent Koudohode received two M.Sc. degrees in Fundamental Mathematics and Applications, from the Institut de Mathématiques et de Sciences Physiques (IMSP), Dangbo, Benin, in 2018, and from Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, France, in 2020, where he also received the Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control in 2023, with research carried out at LAAS-CNRS. Since December 2023, he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Technical University of Crete, Greece, within the ERC Consolidator Grant C-NORA. From October 2026, he will join the Laboratoire des Signaux et Systèmes (L2S), CNRS, CentraleSupélec, Université Paris-Saclay, France, as a Postdoctoral Researcher. His research focuses on the analysis, control, and estimation of infinite-dimensional systems governed by partial differential equations, with emphasis on event-triggered control, predictor feedback, time-delay systems, quantization compensation, and observer design. He serves regularly as a reviewer for major journals and conferences in systems and control.
